about me

My name is Mia Carella, and I am an educator turned stay-at-home mom of an 11-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy. After working in a school for 15 years, I decided to make a career change to SAHM in 2016. Although this new full-time gig doesn’t pay well, it is one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I rediscovered my love of writing during this transition period. I began writing about my adventures in parenting, which range from the usual challenges of raising children to what it is like to be the parent of children with medical conditions and special needs.

What started out as an outlet for my own feelings grew into my desire to share these thoughts with other parents going through the same experiences. I created this blog and also began submitting my work to other places for publication. Since February 2016 my work has been seen on Scary Mommy, HuffPost, Filter Free Parents, Gluten-Free Living, and more. In 2019 I was even able to check off a bucket list item when I became the recipient of the Iris Award for Best Writing presented at the Mom 2.0 Summit.

Thank you for reading my words. I would love for you to follow me on Facebook, TwitterInstagram and Pinterest!

  1. Hello, my name is Shannon Sommers, I started reading the first two paragraphs of one of your blog’s… “You don’t know my daughter” and nearly cried. My daughter turns 12 this Tuesday. She was born with hydrocephalus, followed by daily seizures, non-verbal and a mix of everything else 🙂 You couldn’t have said it better, no one knows, but it would be nice if they did! Anyways, just reaching out bc your daughter’s ways touched my heart, as did you. I recently posted this video of my daughter interacting with her first real friend… the response has been amazing, and yet sad, that everyone sees it so beautiful, when it should always, just be.. but I’m thankful the message has reached so many and hopeful it brings change for our beautiful girls! Thanks again.
